Christmas time in LDN
Christmas time is the best time. Hands down. Always. No debate about it. Which means Christmas in London is the absolute best thing on this Earth. Also not debatable. I've been coming to London around Christmas for ages now, but this year I'm actually a resident! Here's a list of some fun Christmas things to do/look at to really get you in the holly jolly spirit.
Southbank's Christmas market is hands down my favourite market this time of year because there's tons of food stalls, market vendors, and an indoor Cider lodge! Not to mention its really big so there's plenty of space, there's a Christmas tree, and you get fab views of the eye. There's even more food vendors under the bridge, too. Also, it's free entry! All in all a great shout for food, drink, and socialising.
Leicester Square
This Christmas market is like a tinier version of the Southbank one (they all are, honestly). The bar is outdoors so a bit chillier, but right in the city centre so it's nice to wander through sometimes! This market also has a tent with performers, so that's fab for families. I don't have small children, thank God, so I wouldn't actually know if it's worth it. Maybe check out a mom blog that's more focused on families and less focused on bars for that one.
Every year they clear out the green area in front of the museum and put in an ice rink, tree, and carousel! It's absolutely stunning because the museum is gorgeous and they light up all the trees around the museum. Skating is about 16 pounds for an hour and this year they have a fun selfie booth on the ice. This area of town is really cute at Christmas so even if you don't skate, it's nice to have a look and snap a few pics, because it really is that gorgeous. There's also a cafe where you can watch the skating if that's more your vibe.
Somerset House
I haven't skated here, but I've walked through plenty of times because the Christmas tree i so photogenic in the middle of the square! This rink is a bit bigger than the museum's, so that might be nice if you're skating with a big group!
Skylight Roof Top Bar
This year, there's a pop-up ice skating rink on the Skylight London rooftop! That means drinking, skating, and some of the best views of the city!
- Seven Dials
- Oxford Street
- Bond Street
- Regent Street
- Covent Garden
- Kew Gardens: This event is actually in a botanical gardens of sorts and everything is decorated super extra and super cool! You have to buy a ticket online.
I actually went to the Covent Garden light up this year because there's always a mystery celebrity who shows up. Two years ago it was a surprise Kylie Minogue concert! I convinced myself that this year's would be Harry Styles and I would've died if I had been right but didn't go, so duh I went. Harry Styles was not the mystery celeb BUT Emilia Clarke and Emma Thompson were and I almost had a heart attack I was so happy.
Additionally, tons of bars, restaurants, cinemas, pubs, etc. have fun events at the holidays. Instagram is always a good place to find these smaller but super fun events!
That's all I have for now, but perhaps as the Christmas season progresses I'll have some more posts about activities! Everyone be sure to break out the mistletoe and drink at least one festive drink everyday, that'll for sure get you in the spirit. Comment below what you want for Christmas. I want a job in London that will supply me with a visa after my student visa expires :)
