NYC Food and Fun

In typical fashion, here is my super delayed blog post about my trip NYC (in May, yikes.) I went out to the city to visit one of my friends from college who lives (now lived) there along with Morgan, my notorious soulmate and travel partner (probably my life partner, too, if we never catch husbands.) I also got to see my family who lives in New Jersey which was the cherry on top of a lovely Memorial Day Weekend.

Here are some of the most delicious and fun places we went in the city:

1. BUVETTE
This brunch place is trendy as can be, but also insanely delicious! The cute storefront is very Instagram-worthy, but so are the yummy food and drinks inside. I had a Croque Madame, which is one of my favorite brunch meals ever, and it was SO delicious. I only wish the portions were bigger. My cappuccino came in a large mug with no handle -- aka a bowl! I loved it! This is definitely the place to go for a cute, quaint brunch in Soho! Added bonus, it's right near the Friends building!

2. GRAND BANKS
A couple of things to note about Grand Banks -- aka, learn from my mistakes. 1) This bar is on a boat, the boat does NOT sail around and 2) If you go while hungover, that's fine if you can tough it out, but the boat does rock! These are things I was not necessarily prepped for. I met a bunch of friends here and we had super yummy cocktails (hair of the dog, right?) and split a few appetizers! The cocktails and unique atmosphere were the winners here, so whether you're dining or drinking at the bar, it's a win-win.
Does NOT sail to the Statue Liberyt, but you can see her.

3. MAD DOG & BEANS
So not only does this restaurant have such a fun name, but it has outdoor seating on one of the coolest streets in NYC, delicious food, and a margarita tower! It's basically heaven. It's also, obviously, really popular, so make a res, show up early, or be prepped to wait. So worth it though.

4. THE USUAL
My friends and I stumbled upon The Usual when we were going to go somewhere else, but it was packed and we were starving (hungover) and unwilling to wait. Lucky us, because The Usual has a cute atmosphere, trendy bathrooms, and really gives you the bang for your buck. It has a bottomless coffee option, Brunchapalooza, and yummy hash browns and skillets (I love potatoes.) It's attached to The Nolitan Hotel, hence the fab atmosphere and trendy aesthetic. I even saved a business card because I liked the colors so much. Plus: white tables and natural light - Instagram girl dream!

MORE treats!

5. WESTLIGHT
New York City is full of rooftop bars and I am into it. Westlight is located on the top two floors of the William Vale hotel in Brooklyn and it was one of my favorite rooftops we visited. When you arrive, there's a stellar bar with ceiling to floor windows, cool furniture, and a fab cocktail menu. Go up the stairs to the top, top floor, and there's a turf field with cornhole, lounging chairs, and, of course, 360 views of the NYC skyline, and Williamsburg. Gorgeous, delicious, fabulous, amazing.

I would highly recommend all of these places for delicious food and fun atmosphere. Some honorable mentions: Prince Street Pizza, Yankees games, and any bagel place. Although, apparently, according to my god-brothers, the best bagel place is actually in Montclair, New Jersey.

Another honorable mention: The place where I got my surprise tattoo! Almost immediately after reuniting with my friends, and having a few drinks, we thought, "let's getting friendship tattoos." We brainstormed. We sobered up. We had dinner. We brainstormed more. We woke up the next day. Continued to brainstorm! And then got this tattoo shop recommendation from our other friend and decided to go for it. Very dainty, very small. $80. Fabulous artists, super nice and accommodating, AND THERE WAS A RESCUE DOG. Anyways, that's how my friends and I got matching tattoos.

There you have it, my delayed, but fabulous NYC recs. If you have any other recs, drop them in the comments or my DM's. If you want more advice, DM my friend Morgan, she knows more than I do.

xoxo
Lisa
