4 reasons Malta is amazing and you should go

4 Reasons to go to Malta:

I recently got back from my first abroad since moving to Europe. I went to the tiny, tiny island of Malta (which is between Italy and Africa). The first time I heard of Malta was when a girl named Sarah in my sixth grade geography class did a country profile project on Malta (I did mine on England because I'm a basic bitch). The only thing I remembered was that they drive on the other side of the road. I was so hyped with my trip the first morning because holy cow it was immediately the most beautiful place I have ever been.

Here are four reasons why everyone should go to Malta...

1. It is so stunning everywhere you go
I stayed in Sliema on the main island which is very close to St. Julian and across the bay from Valletta. The whole island is smaller than County Dublin, so walking from place to place is extraordinarily easy. Everywhere you turn looks like a magazine. Stunning architecture right on the beautiful bays and beaches, with water that is literally so turquoise you'll want to scream. I was getting very Meditteranean, sunny, relaxed village vibes the whole time I was there. I took way too many pictures while I was visiting because, literally, everything is so beautiful. Here is some visual evidence:

2. The island is not expensive
Thank G for cheap Ryan Air flights! I was able to get to the island for around 130 Euro roundtrip. My Airbnb (that included a gorgeous balcony overlooking the marina)? Only 100 Euro for three nights (200 total but I was splitting). Food? Cheap. Street food? Even cheaper. Alcohol???? We're talking 30 shots for about 15 Euro. Even the taxis are cheap. Basically, I thrived on the low costs and now my left-over cash will be used for tons of food back in Dublin.

3.  THE SUN
Coming from Dublin I was so excited to have a weekend in the sun and that is exactly what I got. I was able to sit outside and sip cocktails, go to the beach, sit on my balcony in the morning in the sun, and soak in tons of Vitamin D. Wearing a bikini for the first time in months was much needed. And now that I'm back in Dublin, and I  won't be in a bikini for some time, I can eat whatever the heck I want and get a beer belly from all the pints I'll be drinking this summer (just kidding... kind of).

(no shame in the bikini pic postin' game)

4. The culture!!!
Malta is such a cool mix of different cultures. Very Mediterranean with some high-key Italian vibes since it's so close to Italy. But also, they have their own semi-Arabic vibes as well. Maltese, the official language, is a variety of Arabic. Throw these two things together and you basically get delicious food, a really relaxed attitude, super kind and hospitable people, and a lot of social get-togethers. It seemed like every night every restaurant was packed with groups of friends and families celebrated one thing or another. Also, going back to food, I tried a Pastizzi for the first time and WOW was that yummy. It's like a puff pastry filled with ricotta cheese and sometimes mushed peas. Very yummy, they cost about 50 cents, and I will dream about them forever.

(LOOK how cute)

(Super casual walking down the steps, definitely not staged.)

Alright friends, I hope I convinced you to go to Malta. Mainly because I want to go back and I want you all to come with me.

XOXO,
Lisa
